3.0 Curriculum and Instruction Issues
3.1 Development of Online Course
ODeL ensures quality in the development, implementation of the programme. A panel will be constituted in the respective disciplines. Its role will be develop courses, edit and evaluate and approve for delivery. ODeL will develop evaluation guidelines for online course development.
3.2 Mode of Study
ODeL will run it's programmes on Semester basis. The semester will run for 14 weeks and 10 weeks.
3.3 Scheduling of E-Learning
ODeL to use Blended mode of learning. E-Learning program courses will generally be conducted on the modular format. Any exceptions must be authorized by the senate. ODeL reserves the right not to host courses which are not within our programs or for which exceptions on faculty credentials and/or course comparability exists. Programme calendar to be availed by ODeL in collaboration with the office of the registrar academic.
3.4 Period of Study
The undergraduate programme to take THREE ACADEMIC years. While Masters Programme to take TWO Academic years.
3.5 Methods of Content Delivery
ODeL will continue to use Asynchronous e.g. use of email, multimedia content (CD, DVDs), and message board forums as methods of content delivery) and to use two methods of content delivery; Synchronous method (use of web conferencing, video conferencing, Skype and live streaming as methods of content delivery)
3.6 Faculty Load
E-Learning courses are considered a part of the regular teaching load and may contribute to an Instructor’s Load, requiring additional compensation as may be specified.
3.7 E-Learning Faculty Requirements
The development of the E-Learning faculty is a critical element to the success of the E-Learning effort.
E-Learning faculty will exhibit the following characteristics:
- Participate in the orientation session for E-Learning faculty. Possess or be capable of developing enhanced technology skills.
- Meet the basic requirements for instruction within the discipline using the guidelines provided.
- All full-time and adjunct faculty who desire to teach an online course will be required to show competency in online instruction by one of the following:

- Completing 10 hour instructor training course offered through Moodle
- Furnishing documentation, verifying online instruction taught at another institution of higher learning
- Showing knowledge and expertise in using Learning management System by having taught or used for previous classes
3.8 Faculty e-Learning Instructional Responsibilities
In accordance with the guidelines set forth coordination of HODs, e-Learning faculties are expected to:
- Develop a e-Learning syllabi for each course;
- Develop quality course materials and presentations for each course;
- Commit to developing an awareness of e-Learning techniques and issues through participation in workshops and conferences;
- Regularly participate in e-Learning faculty meeting(s) each semester which are coordinated by the e-Learning Director;
- Provide e-Learning students with a course orientation at the beginning of each semester;
- Mentor new faculty to the e-Learning program;
- Maintain all course records as required by the university;
- Maintain contact hours for e-Learning student’s equivalent to that offered to campus based students. In order to give students structured access to full time as well as part time instructors, one online office hour per week is required for all online instructors along with posting of all regular office hours for full-time faculty members. Additional hours should be maintained by e-mail, chat room, discussion groups, phone, fax, regular mail, etc. and must be clearly stated within the course site.
- Support the e-Learning student by serving as a link to other campus contacts;
- Complete all required survey evaluations;
- Administer exams for provided e-Learning classes;
- Communicate and coordinate activities with the ODeL Director.
3.9 Faculty Student Retention Rates for Virtual Courses
The success and retention rates of each online faculty member will be reviewed and evaluated at the end of each semester.
- The average of the instructor’s most previous three (3) online courses should equal or exceed a minimum of 50% retention rate.
- If an instructor should not maintain at least an average of a 50% retention rate among the last three online classes taught, the instructor will be denied the opportunity to teach a virtual course for a period of one (1) year.
- During this time, the instructor will have access to LMS training and curriculum training, as well as have the opportunity to revise his/her online course.
- At the end of the one year non-teaching period, the instructor will have the opportunity to request to teach a virtual course.
- If the instructor is unable to obtain at least a 50% retention rate in his/her online course after being reinstated, he/she will be denied a virtual class for an additional year. At the end of the second year, if the instructor is still unable to master at least a 50% retention rate, he/she will be denied the opportunity to teach any further virtual classes.
- To guarantee quality of online curriculum, facilitators and learners must show commitment to online learning.
